In recent years, we have heard reports of “record-breaking heat” almost every year.
To put these reports into a broader historical context, I built my own database using data from the Japan Meteorological Agency, covering the period from 1970 to the present, when global warming began to attract widespread attention.
The database includes weather conditions as well as daily maximum, minimum, and average temperatures.
I use this data to create easy-to-understand visualizations that show how the weather and temperatures have changed over more than half a century.
